Beaches in and around Istanbul
Here’s yet another question I’ve been asked by our guests especially when summer’s approaching. “Where are the best places/beaches for swimming in Istanbul?”… So I will try to make it as simple and informative as possible.
The very first thing here to say is, sadly, although Istanbul is surrounded by seas (the Marmara and the Black Sea) all around, it is not going to be the same experience as anything like the Aegean sea or the Mediterranian. But on the other hand there are various options either located somewhat close to center and suburbs. I will try to list them here:
On the european side of Istanbul…
Menekşe Beach: This public beach with 620 meters coast line is free and located in Florya. It is quipped with 200 deck chairs, 200 umbrellas, 3 life-saving stations, 8 changing rooms, cafe and autopark.
Güneş Beach: A bigger public beach in Florya again with 840 meters coast line yet this one is not free. It is 15 TL per person. Yet it is equipped with 1500 deck chairs, 1500 umbrellas, 2 life saving stations, 234 changing rooms, 48 showers, 2 cafes.
Now, while we are still central, we are going to asian side of Istanbul:
3 more beaches welcomes you here all of which are in Caddebostan. They are lined up one after another…
Caddebostan 1: This one is free and has a 450 meters coast line. It’s equipped with 483 deck chairs, 600 umbrellas, 1 life saving station, 18 changing rooms, 8 showers and 2 cafes.
Caddebostan 2: This public beach has an entrance of daily 15 TL per person. There is a 300 meters of coast line with 500 deck chairs, 500 umbrellas. It is also equipped with a life saving station, 14 changing rooms, 8 shower units and a cafe.
Caddebostan 3: With 250 meters coast line, 100 deck chairs, 150 umbrellas, 1 life saving station, 8 changing rooms, 4 shower units and a cafe. And yes, it’s free.
If you care to go out a bit more to peripheries, I can list you more options.
Şile Uzunkum Beach: Şile is one of the summer resorts within Istanbul. It is located on Black sea and the beach is rather away from the noise of the city. One down side of the beach is that the sea is often quite rough and might be dangerous for swimming.
Beside these public beaches, there are also paid-beaches in Istanbul. Dodo beach is located in Tuzla and face the Marmara sea. Solar beach, Dalia and Nonstop Beach are located in Kilyos and face the Black Sea.
